In Latin America, Mécénat Servier supports two major solidarity projects
Thanks to financial aid from Mécénat Servier, the organization TECHO continues to build emergency housing in six Latin American countries while the Brazilian hospital Mãe de Deus has fully resumed its activities after the devastating floods of 2024.These two emblematic projects illustrate the Charity Fund’s humanitarian commitment.
With TECHO, emergency housing for the most vulnerable
Mécénat Servier partnered with TECHO, a nonprofit organization that mobilizes young volunteers to build emergency housing and implement social inclusion programs to combat extreme poverty in Latin America.
In Brazil, TECHO’s subsidiary is called TETO and has already mobilized over 70,000 volunteers and built emergency housing. The organization has a long history of responding to disaster situations, and its strategy includes several phases: community assessment, participatory planning, and implementation of solutions, which may include the development of permanent housing and social programs in education and health.
We have an impact on multiple levels with this project: on the local young people who participate with us, on the volunteers, and on the families we help.
Ramiro Perez, General Director, TECHO Europe
The partnership with Mécénat Servier has enabled the construction of 12 emergency homes in the slums of six Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Panama). These emergency houses are wooden structures built by Servier and TECHO volunteers working alongside the beneficiary families.
With AESC: bringing a damaged hospital back to life
More than two years ago, torrential rains hit southern Brazil, causing rivers in the state of Rio Grande do Sul to overflow and leading to devastating floods. In addition to the millions of affected residents, several healthcare facilities saw their operations interrupted.
This was the case for Mãe de Deus hospital in Porto Alegre, located on the banks of Lake Guaíba. The facility is managed by the Associação Educadora São Carlos (AESC), a nonprofit institution active in corporate social responsibility, education, and health.
During the disaster, the basement premises housing the electricity and gas supply, sanitation networks, treatment rooms, and consultation rooms were completely flooded. Activities were significantly impacted, leading to an interruption of care for 15,000 patients per month and the forced inactivity of 2,500 employees.
In this context, AESC requested help from the Mécénat Servier Charity Fund to acquire medical equipment necessary for the full resumption of the hospital’s activities. The objective: to restore the facility’s healthcare capacity.
After the renovation, we were able to resume care for our patients and offer quality treatment in cardiology, orthopedics, and all our specialties.
Dr. Cicero Baldin, Emergency Department Coordinator, Mãe de Deus hospital
This aid enabled the acquisition of dozens of medical beds and bedside furniture, as well as medical equipment (surgical tables, gynecological stretchers, multiparameter monitors, etc.). These materials are intended for a new area of the hospital called « Mãe 360° », whose renovation is now completely finished and operational. In August 2026, the hospital inaugurated new spaces dedicated to medical staff, employees, and educational activities, marking the definitive completion of the reconstruction work.
