Revitalizing Education
Romania and Bulgaria face significant challenges in their education systems. Teach For Bulgaria reports that one in three children starting primary school do not speak Bulgarian as a first language, and 53% of students are functionally illiterate. 35% of teachers leave the profession after three years, and almost 30% of principals lack training in school management. Romania struggles with high student dropout rates, particularly in rural areas.
The program promotes contemporary teaching methods that empower students to take charge of their own learning and become more independent. Another objective for Bulgaria is to help school principals create an attractive work environment for teachers.
Investing in the Future
As education is one of Mécénat Servier’s key priorities, we naturally joined forces with both organizations that aim to address these issues through novice teacher training and the Model Schools program.
In Romania, our funding and employee commitments focus on recruiting and training teaching staff, particularly in contemporary teaching methods and digital solutions.
During our two-year partnership with Mécénat Servier we defined various local missions for our colleagues to volunteer for. For example, they participated in selecting the new generation of teachers and engaged directly with younger children to promote literacy.

In Bulgaria, Mécénat Servier’s contribution helps fund the Model Schools program. Adelina, who initiated the project at Servier Bulgaria, says the teams were enthusiastic about the volunteering opportunities available.
Servier Bulgaria employee role models came to the classrooms and showed students through personal examples how they can achieve everything they strive for through their own efforts.
