150 stories of hope and opportunity: supporting young mothers in Colombia
Juanfe Foundation and Mécénat Servier are making a difference for teenage mothers in Colombia by providing vocational training, psychosocial support, and health care services. Discover how our shared values are helping these young women break the cycle of poverty and thrive!
Breaking the cycle of poverty
Teenage pregnancy is a significant factor in the cycle of poverty worldwide, and Colombia is no exception. With the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in Latin America, many young women aged 15 to 19 face challenging circumstances. Most come from vulnerable backgrounds with limited access to education, leading to higher risks during childbirth and for their children. Juanfe Foundation steps in to address these issues by offering comprehensive support to improve the living conditions of young mothers, their children, and their families.
Growing and learning together
Since 2024, Servier volunteers joined forces with Juanfe Foundation to conduct workshops for 150 new young mothers. Four sessions, based on Servier’s values “Grow by sharing,” “Care,” “Dare to innovate,” and “Commit to succeed;” provided a platform for mutual inspiration and learning. Young women shared their stories and broadened their horizons, while Servier volunteers shared tools and recommendations to help these young women develop soft skills, finding the experience enriching and fulfilling.
Juanfe Foundation has helped me become the person I am today, both professionally and personally. I am now doing a training course to put these new skills to good use, and I am thriving!
Ana Cristina Velasquez, Foundation beneficiary
My experience can be summed up in two words: rewarding and inspiring. I was touched by the young moms’ enthusiasm, their desire to succeed, and their vision of a future that holds more opportunities for them and their children. Equipping them with tools to rethink and nurture their ideas is truly a valuable contribution to their learning process.

When we create these opportunities for connection, we share life experiences. This gives the young women we work with the feeling that they can broaden their horizons, which is truly valuable for them.
