Mécénat Servier expands its philanthropic approach in Ivory Coast and Indonesia

Supporting children and young adults in precarious or socially excluded situations: this is the aim of two large-scale projects that Mécénat Servier will be supporting from this summer in Ivory Coast and Indonesia. Selected through the annual call for “joint initiatives” projects from the Group’s Charity Fund, these locally managed projects will receive both human and financial support. Meet the beneficiaries.

AIM lends an attentive ear to those who have no one to listen to them

In Ivory Coast, Mécénat Servier will partner with the nonprofit organization Imagine le Monde. The project? Building a psychological counseling center to address the mental health needs of disadvantaged women and children in the Gonzagueville community, a working-class neighborhood in Abidjan.  Ultimately, the initiative will lead to a lasting improvement in living conditions in the communities by giving everyone access to free and anonymous psychological care.

The AIM nonprofit has been supporting me for 5 years. I’ve benefited from literacy courses and a sewing training. They always listen to me, advise me and give me the strength to move forward. The NGO will soon be opening a mental health center, and I’m delighted about this news, because life has become so difficult and there are so many issues. I’m convinced that this Center will make me feel better and that it will benefit many people, especially children.

Key Figure: Ivory Coast has only 34 conventional mental health centers, i.e. less than one professional for every 100,000 inhabitants.1

Imagine le Monde’s mission

AIM helps vulnerable people in Gonzagueville, a district of Abidjan, the country’s economic capital, to integrate and become self-sufficient.
It offers children and young people (some of whom are disabled) access to education, cultural and sporting activities that promote their personal development and prepare them for integration into society. The nonprofit works to improve living conditions for families in difficulty, in particular by empowering women.

LP4Y’s mission is to break the cycle of poverty in the families

In Indonesia, Mécénat Servier supports the organization Life Project 4 Youth (LP4Y), a loyal partner in the Middle East since 2020. The goal: to develop a training center in Jakarta, the Indonesian capital, to accompany 140 young people in extreme poverty and exclusion towards professional and social integration, and ultimately to escape the cycle of poverty.

Where I come from, many young people are either unemployed or work as stone pickers, earning a dollar a day. For millions of young people living in extreme poverty with limited access to education and opportunities, any kind of support is invaluable. With LP4Y, we benefit from professional training courses designed by our partners, such as CV creation, job interviews, IT training, confidence-building through mock interviews, business management, administration, marketing, and hospitality.
I am grateful to have crossed paths with them and to have met committed people who trust in my dream and support me all the way long.

Key figure: In 2019, 26.12% of young people aged 15 to 19 were unemployed, and 15% of young people aged 20 to 24 couldn’t find a job. This figure rose to 25% in 20202.

Life Project 4 Youth (LP4Y)’s mission

LP4Y’s mission is to help young adults aged 17 to 24 in situations of exclusion and poverty to find employment and social integration.
The organization offers a six-month program, during which young people benefit from educational support focused on personal development and professional skills through the management of a micro-enterprise.

Mécénat Servier will donate 100,000 euros to each of the two nonprofit organizations over a two-year period. But that’s not all! Servier employees will also be able, through the skills-based sponsorship program, to provide their human support and expertise to the beneficiaries.
